Show CHLAMYDIA (Cases in 1992 in Utah =1,613) Infections due to chlamydia are the most prevalent of all sexually transmitted bacterial infections. The Utah:U.S. ratio shows that Utah's chlamydia rate was just over one-third that of the nation's from 1988 to 1991 (Table 65, Figure 41). However, in 1992 Utah's rate had grown to one-half that of the nation's. This trend largely reflects increased screening, recognition of asymptomatic infection, and improved reporting capacity. Surveillance for chlamydial infection began relatively recently and increasing the number of cases reported is more a result of increasing case ascertainment than of increasing infection rates.
