Show OVERVIEW In a time when health care reform is one of our most pressing concerns, health-related information is important for leaders in government and business, health care professionals, and all those who want to know the current status of our health care system. Utah's Health: An Annual Review is an annual publication compiled and edited by University of Utah undergraduate and graduate students. The purpose of the journal is to provide readers with current and pertinent information and data regarding health and health care in Utah as compared to the nation, and to provoke interest in and facilitate discussion of health-related topics. The Review includes four sections: Data, Articles, Issues and Updates, and Directory. The data section has five subsections, which focus on demographics; health status; risk factors; health care costs, access and quality; and public health. The purpose of the narrative accompanying the data is to point out trends which are important to Utah and offer guidance in interpretation. The data section provides references to more detailed sources, including secondary sources easily available to the general public. Comments on additional data sources are welcomed. The articles section contains contributions by scholars, students, administrators, policy makers, and practitioners who want to discuss health care issues. This year's edition of Utah's Health contains articles regarding: Utah's seven-year health plan, telemedicine, and competition in the health-care industry. The directory section provides a listing of various health-care-related agencies in Utah. It is not meant to be exhaustive, but rather to provide readers with the means to further understanding of particular issues or problems through contact with agencies concerned with those issues or problems. Finally, the purpose of the issues update section is to provide readers with basic information regarding various health care topics and issues that have arisen since the publication of last year's journal. With this the second edition of Utah's Health: An Annual Review, we hope to further establish the role of the journal in informing interested Utahns and others regarding the status of health and health care in Utah. We hope that this journal will help the reader understand these issues. vn |
