Show BIRTHS TO ADOLESCENTS (15-19 YRS) Utah is below the U.S. in the percentage of total births to adolescents between 15 and 19 years of age. The nation's rate of births to adolescents declined between 1980 and 1987, but the next year began a slow increase which has continued through 1991, the last year reported (Table 89, Figure 56). Utah's percentage of births to adolescents declined from 1980 to 1984, reaching a low point that year (which was only two-thirds of the national rate). Since 1985 Utah's rate has increased irregularly, but faster than the national rate. By 1991, Utah's rate had returned to the 1981 level and was 83% of the national rate.
