Show FREQUENCY OF HOSPITAL ADMITTANCE (Admissions per 1,000 Population) Utah's hospital admittance rate is below the national average. Both Utah and the nation experienced a general decline in hospital admissions from 1986 to 1988. In 1989 the nation experienced a new increase, while Utah did so in 1990 (Table 67, Figure 43). But, the UtahrU.S. ratio shows a fairly constant relationship over the last five years, with Utah's frequency of hospital admittance approximately 80% of the nation's. The Utah hospitalization prevalence rate by age indicates that younger persons are hospitalized less frequently than those who are older (Table 68, Figure 44). Hospitalizations for ages 45-64 and those 65 and older are substantially higher for males compared to the younger age groups. Females in the 18-44 age group have a much higher rate than the males (due to hospitalization for childbirth). 1991 Hospital Admissions by Gender in Utah Table 68 Age Male Female 0-17 2.8 2.4 18-44 4.1 15.8 45-64 8.0 8.1 65+ 15.2 12.0 Utah 1991 Hospital Admissions by Gender Figure 44 Male D Female Utah's Health: An Annual Review 1994 45 |
