Show PROSTATE CANCER (ICD-9Code: 185.0-185.9) (1992 Total Deaths in Utah = 195) cancer Utah's incidence rates for prostate continue to be higher than the U.S. (Table 31, Figure 23). This has been consistent since 1981. Utah's incidence of disease rose 57% from 1981 to 1990, while in the U.S. the rate increased only 43%. Improvements in diagnosis of prostate cancer may account for much of the increase in incidence, including the introduction of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing. Increased use of other modes of detection such as digital rectal exams, ultrasound, needle biopsy, and serum testing, could also account for the difference.
