Any girl interested in athletic training is eligible to membership. The members are of two kinds, those who take an active part in the sports and those who come as spectators to the contests and participate in the banquets and other celebrations given at the close of every series of match games. The W. A. A. is still a young organization, this being only its third year, yet the enthusiasm and interest has grown so rapidly that it is almost impossible with the present lack of room and scarcity of instructors to meet the growing demands of the healthy, active, young women.Officers are elected twice a year. Those acting during the last semester were:Mary Johnson, President. Laura Poulson, Vice President. Edna Hull, Secretary-Treasurer. Edna Davenport, Business Manager. The athletics engaged in this year have been basketball, cross-country running, baseball and handball. For the basketball games two banners were awarded, one U> the Sophomore girls, winners of the Freshmam-Sophomore class series, given by Miss De Laney, the other to the Alphas, winners in the Alpha Omega series, presented by Professor Maud May Babcock. To the class making the largest number of cross-country runs, a pennant is awarded yearly by Miss Babcock.Of all the athletic sports, however, baseball has held the lead this year, in spite of the fact that the girls have as yet no athletic field. Miss Babcock also awards a pennant to the winning team.(213) |
