Roosevelt Hospital, New York City. There are two facts that somewhat lighten our regret at the departure of Mr. Maddock. One is that we are to have Mr. Bolin as Director of Athletics, and the other that Mr. Fred Bennion, whom most of us know and admire, wi 1 assist Mr. Bolin in the work. At our solicitation Mr. Bolin sent us a word of greeting which is printed here in full.Greeting :A stranger I come to you. A stranger, but with the hope to serve. And service being the hallmark of friendship, it is a friend who joins your ranks. Our department has the greatest potentialities of any for service. It can enter deeper than any other into- the personal life of the students. It can more' thoroughly than any other department conjoin precept to practice. Will those potentialities be realised? Will that close union between students and faculty he consummated? Will our ideals find concrete expression? It will all depend on our ability to distinguish between shadow and substance. Whether we will be able to keep steadfast to the solid ground of seeking to serve the student body, or be lured astray by the ignis fatuus of popular, clamor.Let us all join hands in a steady march forward, conscious of our goal, and undisturbed by any accidental will-o'-the-wisp.JAKOB BOLIN.(191) |
