Show ''Next to that sparkling fountain, where the patrons and patronesses of the evening imbibed the waters of youth, that their old-time beauty might be restored them, was another pretty little rustic summer house, in which the Order of the Gleam and the Scribblers' Club held forth. Big, white chrysanthemums covered the green walls and the inviting chairs of the bower seemed to have a special attraction for the loving little dancers."The medicine men invited many to a tiny forest of their own where from an old moss-covered well flowed crystal waters of a sweetness most alluring."Next to the forest was a queer little checker-board booth, a sort of latticed porch, at the entrance of which two welcoming flames blazed enticingly. There were plenty of salted almonds and candy wafers for those who strolled onto the porch."The Alpha Pi mission was next in order. Two antique bells, borrowed from some castle in Spain, tolled selemnly from a pair of tiny bell-windows in the front of the building. The inside was all ablaze with red poinsettas. Chocolate almonds were scattered over the floor."The Sigma Chi fellows had a house-boat near by. All evening couples dangled their feet over the side of the boat while they cruised in imagination through flowering tropics."A very soft couch in the inviting Normal booth was the most attractive feature in their restful summer house.'The Kappa Pi Alpha booth adjoined the Thetas' porch. Delicately tinted inisteria, which was clinging to the walls, made a very airy, summery effect."The Japanese booth, another nectar parlor, was simply beautiful. Why, the white walls were fairly covered with pale yellow and lavender chrysanthemums ; Japanese bells and big oriental lamps hung from the ceiling and rich rugs were spread on the floor."The Barristers had the last of the line of booths. The shelves of heavy books that lined their corners gave evidence of the fact that even in the "Good Old Summer Time," Barristers enjoy devouring law. Why, Bill, the Elysian Fields aren't in it when compared to the Junior Prom. If I could but live my life over again I'd be a Junior, too!"The East Wall(183) |
