Show 1910 DramaticsHEALTH!'' cried Mr. Telfer, "A health to Tre-lawny, Trelawny of the Wells!"There was a clinking of glasses, a draining to the dregs, and the fourteenth annual appearance of the University Dramatic Club was added as a crowning mark to the other lucky thirteen. When one comes to think of it, this is a rather wonderful organization, this Dramatic Club of ours. It is the oldest, and has the longest record of success of any similar organization in the intermountain region.During last Fall there was some delay in selecting a play, owing to< the unwillingness of the Eastern theatrical houses to send us manuscripts of their recent successes. The season was growing* late, and those in charge finally decided upon a play which had been presented seven years before: Pinero's "Trelawny of the Wells." After the reading of the play, there came the usual practice rehearsals, and, for a while, one could not venture into a nook or corner of the buildings without stumbling into a practice. The tryouts lasted for over two weeks, and, under the directors' discriminating eye, the long list of ninety contestants narrowed itself down to the winning sixteen who were to constitute the University Dramatic Club for nineteen-nine and ten. They are Erma Bitner, Edna Hull, Laura Poulson, Vivian Tallhurst, Alice Hurst, Jennie Ryan, Ellen Clark Hen-(130)"TIGHT WADDO' |
