Show 16 1 tion of irrigation works for the reclamation of arid lands," 2 and the Acts amendatory thereof and supplemental thereto. 3 " Maintenance " as used herein shall be deemed to in- 4 elude in each instance provision for keeping the works in 5 good operating condition. 0 Sec. 12. (a) The Colorado River compact signed at 7 Santa Fe, New Mexico, November 24, 1922, pursuant to 8 Act of Congress approved August 19, 1921, entitled "An 9 Act to permit a compact or agreement between the States 10 of Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, 11 Utah, and Wyoming respecting the disposition and appor- 12 tionment of the waters of the Colorado River, and for other 13 purposes," is hereby approved by the Congress of the United 14 States, and the provisions of the first paragraph of article 11 15 of the said Colorado River compact, making said compact 16 binding and obligatory when it shall have been approved 17 by the legislature of each of the signatory States, are hereby IB waived, and this approval shall become effective when the 19 State of California and at least three of the other States 20 mentioned, shall have approved or may hereafter approve 21 said compact as aforesaid and shall consent to such waiver. 22 (D) The rights of the United States in or to waters 23 of the Colorado River and its tributaries howsoever claimed 24 or acquired, as well as the rights of those claiming under 25 the United States, shall be subject to and controlled by said 26 Colorado River compact. |
