Show 8 1 Secretary of the Interior, in accordance with the provisions 2 of the reclamation law, and any such entryman shall pay the 8 proportionate share, as determined by the said Secretary, of 4 the construction cost of the cnnal or .canals and appurtenant 5 structures, constructed for the irrigation and reclamation of 6 said lands, as provided for by this Act, such construction cost 7 to be paid in such installments, and at such times as may bo 8 specified by the Secretary of the Interior, in accordance with 9 the provisions of the said reclamation law: Provided, That all 10 persons who have served in the United States Army, Navy, 11 of Marine Corps during the war with Germany, the war with 12 Spain, or in the suppression of the insurrection in the Philip- 13 pines, and who have been honorably separated or discharged 14 therefrom or placed in the Regular Army or Navy Reserve, 15 shall have the exclusive preference right for a period of three 16 months to enter said lands; and also, so far as practicable, 17 preference shall be given to said persons in all construc- 18 tion work authorized by this Act: Provided, That in the 19 event such an entry shall be relinquished at any time prior 20 to actual residence upon the land by the entryman for not 21 less than one year, lands so relinquished shall not be sub- 22 ject to entry for a period of sixty days after the filing and 23 notation of the relinquishment in the local land office, and 24 shall, after the expiration of such sixty-day period, be subject 25 to entry by the first qualified applicant. |
