Show s 1 but not exceeding one hundred and sixty acres, as may be 2 determined by the Secretary of the Interior, in accordance 3 with the provisions of the reclamation law, and any such 4 entrvman shall pay the proportionate share, as determined 5 by the said Secretary, of the construction cost of the canal 6 or canals and appurtenant structures constructed for the 7 irrigation and reclamation of said lands, as provided for by 8 this Act, such construction cost to be paid in such install- 9 ments and at such times as may be specified by the Sec- 10 retary of the Interior, in accordance with the provisions of 11 the said reclamation law: Provided, That all persons who 12 have served in the United States Army, Navy, or Marine 13 Corps during the war with Germany, the war with Spain, 14 or in the suppression of the insurrection in the Philippines, 15 and who have been honorably separated or discharged therc- 16 from or placed in the Regular Army or Navy Reserve, shall 17 have the exclusive preference right for a period of three 18 months to enter said lands; and also, so far as practicable, 19 preference shall be given to said persons in all construc- 20 tion work authorized by this Act: Provided, That in the 21 event sucli an entry shall be relinquished at any time prior 22 to actual residence upon the land by the entrvman for not 23 less than one year, lands so relinquished shall not be sub- 24 ject to entry for a period of sixty days after the filing and 25 notation of the relinquishment in the local land office, and |
