Show Suicide by Age During the five-year period from 1990-1994, overall suicide rates in Utah remained consistently high for ages 18-84, peaking slightly for ages 35-44. Suicide rates by age differ substantially for Utah men and women. Suicide rates for Utah men are highest among the old and young. In Utah in 1990-1994, rates for young men ages 18-24 (40.20 per 100,000) were second only to the rates for men age 75 and older (62.88 per 100,000). Rates for those ages 25-64 are only slightly lower. In fact, from 1988 to 1993, suicide Table 52. Utah Suicide Rates by Age and Sex, 1990-1994* was the leading cause of death for Utah men ages 25-44 \ Suicide rates for men of all ages in Utah is a serious concern. For women in Utah, suicide rates follow a different trend: rates are highest for women ages 35-44 (10.53 per 100,000), followed by rates for women ages 45-54 (8.6 per 100,000). Rates are lower for younger and older women in Utah. The differences in suicide rates by age between men and women point to potentially different causes.
