Show Chronic Liver Disease and Cirrhosis (ICD-9Code: 571) (1995 Total Deaths in Utah = 103) Although there have been slight annual fluctuations, the chronic liver disease and cirrhosis mortality rate in Utah has been generally declining. Utah has continually had rates substantially lower than the national rate. Lower alcohol consumption in Utah may partly account for the lower rate. Females showed an increase in mortality in 1995, while the male rate has been increasing since 1994. The male rate remains higher than the female rate. This may be explained by a higher consumption of alcohol by males. Table 45.
