Show Prenatal Care Early prenatal care can reduce the incidence of low birth weight infants and infant mortality. Because access to prenatal care determines many other health issues, prenatal care is an access issue. Utah has a higher percentage of women receiving prenatal care in the first trimester than does the nation. Utah also has a lower percentage of women who are not receiving prenatal care at all or not until the third trimester. These percentages for Utah have remained somewhat consistent for 20 years. U.S. percentages are following similar trends, but with more fluctuation. Table 102. Sources: Utah 1995-1996: Utah's Vital Statistics: Births and Deaths (1996).
