Show Girls' Athletics HE girls of the University have accomplished much more in athletics this year than they have during any previous year. This has been due largely to the organization of a gymnasium club. This club is presided over by a president and an executive committee, composed of girls selected from the four college classes and from the second and third year preparatory students. The club, under the direction of Miss Lyla Knudson, controls all the athletic activities of the girls, including the regular gymnasium work.Under the direction of the club, three basket ball teams, several cross country squads, indoor tennis teams, and about ten gymnasium classes have been organized. Throughout the year a great deal of interest has been manifested in cross country work, outdoor work for girls being something new in the school. Outdoor work, however, is conceded to be the very best exercise, and whenever the weather has permitted, cross country running has proved very popular. Dancing has also engaged much of the girls' attention, and many of them are now expert in German, Swedish and Folk dancing. The girls feel that they are having a splendid opportunity for training in physical education, and show their appreciation by a very general attendance. The officers are:Miss Bassett, President.Miss Edwards, Secretary and Treasurer.Miss L'Amphere, Manager.THE ALPHAS (207) |
