Show - bO - The Company of Saints came through all right; left the cars sunday morning and obtained temporary shelter in a l a rger the a ter building where we are f or the present comfortably housed and cared for, which is quite fortunate as the weather has been unpleasantly cold for t he past f orty-eight hours . However, we have good warm rooms and halls wi~h some stoves and all are doing well . Brother Lisenbee has doubtless called on you ere this time and given you a detailed a ccoun~ of the company; their conQition and strength, e~c. all of which will obviate the . necessi~y of my touching on tha t subject. Since our arrival here , we have looked a bout to endeavor to secure some means ot wintering and have about concluded to erect barracks . A location has been secured a bout one mile from the city on a secluded island in a bend oi· the ~\ rkan s a s River. The camp will be surrounded by trees tha t will serve to break the wind and temper the cold. We organized to the Un ited Order l ast night and elected brother Daniel R. Sellers the presiding off icer , deferring the selection of other o:t'f icers until we move i nto our ba rracks. The bre thren and sisters are all in good s pirits and t he s pirit of union has been with us . Our money will all be paiQ into t he hands of the Presiding Off icer and ·he, with the assistance of his clerk and counsellors will purchase a l l we need . We a re, a t present , all e a ~ing a t the s ame ~able and one man is purcha sing all we use . There are two he ads of fam ilies who may not be abl e to meet the requirements of the l.m i ted Order but;t they have but small fam ilies and possibly it is all f or ~he best . The r emainder are all ac ting in perfgct a c c ord; not a j a r as yet . I may be a ble to loca te t he t wo families nea r our Barra cks where t h ey will be unQer our i nfl uenc e and con ~rol . |
