In a great cloud of dust, the horsemen stopped in front of the Ba iley ?orne and hesitated,~ ~ much surprized to see Elder Morgan ,Aapparen ' unconcern continuing with nis SelmOn and With his side, re ady for instant use. As the dust of the horsemen cleared away , El der Morgan. counseled his assembled audience tha t there was nothing to f ear, but that he felt impres·sed to digress somewhat from the Gospel theme he had .been treating and speak f or a few moments upon. another subject. Then in a calm and undistrubed manner he s tarted to spe·ak on the rights and duties of American citizenship; eloquently enla r ged upon the right of free speech; told his audience, which now included the klansmen, of the ancient doctrine that a man's home was his ca s t le and ~ tha t he had the full right to defend it, i f necessary with force, l~ ! inally, he sta ted tha t though · he was out a humble advoca te of the :::: Gospel of the Redeemer of the worl d , yet it was his intention to continue his work in the ministry among the people who· were a ssembled and t hat he would defend tha t right, even with his life a t stake . It was then tha t the le ader of the Kl ansmen was overhea rd to say to his followers: " That d- -- Mormon appears to know wha t he is t alking a bout."
