Show - bO - The Company of Saints came through all right; left the ca rs Sunday morning and obtained tempora ry shelter in a l a r ger the a ter building where we are f or t he present comfortably housed and cared i'or , which is quite :rortunate as the weather has been unpleasantly cold f or t he past i'orty-eight hours . However , we have good warm rooms and halls with some stoves and all a re doing well . Brother Lisenbee has doubtless called on you ere this time and given you a detailed a ccoun~ of the c ompany ; their conQition a nd strength , etc . all oi' which will oovia te the .necessity of my touching on tha t subject. Since our a rrival here , we have looked a bout to endeavor to secure some means of' wintering and have about co ncluded to erect barracks . A ·loc a tion has been secured ab out one mile f rom the city on a secluded island in a bend ot· the ~i rkansa s River . The camp will be surrounded by trees tha t will serve to break the wind and temper the cold . we organ i zed to the United Order l ast nigh t and elected brother Daniel R. Sellers the pres i ding off icer , deferring the selection o:f othe r offi cers until we move into our barracks . The bre thren and sisters are all in good s pi r its and the spirit of union has been with us . Our money will all be paiQ into tne hands of' the Presi ding Off icer and ·he, with the a ssistance o1' his clerk and counsellors will purchase a l l we need . we are , a t present , all eating a t the s ame table and one man is purchasing all we use . There are two he ads of fam ilies who may n ot be able to meet the re quirements oi the Un ited OrQer but~ they have but small families and possibly it is all f or the best . The remai nder are all ac ting in perfe·ct a c c ord; not ajar as yet . I may be abl e to locate the t wo :families nea r our Barracks where they will be unaer our in :nuence and control . |
