But we cannot progress and live a successful life in a world of hatred and turmoil. It is, therefore, necessary for us to work to bring about and maintain proper conditions in the world. This cannot be done by science and materialism alone. It will be necessary for all to work towards that great ideal, the f// pith and heart of Christianity, the Golden lIL Rule. It,Again, it is well to keep level headed x; in pursuit of knowledge for proneness tojump to conclusions may make bigots of us all, scientific as well as religious. By scientific research we can become acquainted with effects and phenomena and some immediate causes, but we cannot discover the ultimate causes and the real essence of things. Science can search out important and wonderful facts in many of the hidden recesses of the seen as well as the unseen world, but there are depths in both worlds which it cannot fathom.
