Show I REPORT OF THE CO~ I SBIONER OF ~ D I A NA FFAIRS. 87 1 west line of the Indian Territory, and on November 10 authority was granted for the company to locate and survey its line of road from the west line of Indian Territory, at or near the town of Keokuk Falls, Okla., and extending thence in a northeasterly direction through the Seminole, Creek, and Cberokee nations, in the Indian Territory, to the east line thereof, near the town of Seneca, Mo. June 2,1900, the Department granted further authority for the location and survey of an extension of said wmpany's line of road, commencing at a point on the main line at or near the township corner between Tps. 13 and 14 N., Rs. 15 and 16 E., in the Creek Nation, near the postro5ce of Lee, and extending thence in a southeasterly direction over and along the moat feasible and practicable route to the city of Fort Smith, Ark. ; such authority, however, being coupled with the express proviso that if the maps of definite location of said extension shall show that the line of road lies within 10 miles of an already constructed line, or a line in actual cpurse of construction, the company will be required to show how the public interest will be promoted by the location and construction of its said extension before maps of definite location of the same will be approved. September 5,1900, the Department accepted the proofs of service and approved the maps (in duplicate) of definite location of sections Nos. 1, 3, and 5, and ako approved one part of each of the sectional maps of sections Nos. 2 and 4. The Department declined to approve the other pa& of said sectional maps Nos. 2 and 4 because the certificates attaehed thereto were incorrect. These maps were returned to the company on September 8 for amendment and correction. Seattle-Tacoma Railway Company.-November 8, 1899, the Depart-ment granted authority for said oompany to locate and survey a line of railroad across the Puyallup Indian Reservation, in the State of Washington, along the line of route mentioned in its application, namely, beginning at or near the northerly line of the Puyallup Indian Reservation, intersecting said lime between secs. 31 and 32, T. 21 N., R. 4 E., Willamette meridian; extending thence in a general southerly direction to the subdivisional line between the NE. & of the SE. & and the SE. a of the SE. t of sec. 6, T. 21 N., R. 4 E., Willamette meridian; thence following the said snbdivisional line westward to a point where the same intersects with the western boundary line of the Puyallup Indian Reservation in sec. 3, T. 20 N., R. 3 E., Willamette meridian. May 2, 1900, the Department accepted the proofs of service of copiw of the map of definite location upon the Indian allbttees of the Puydlup Reservation whose lands are crossed by the line of the road and approved the company's map of dehite location of the line of road through the Pnyallup Indian Reservation. The Department on the same date designated Clinton A. Suowden, PnyaUup commissioner, to assess the tribal damages for right of way of the company through the unallotted lands of the reservation, |
