Show Green Bay Agency, Wis., to arrange with and to employ such Menom. 1 onee Indians as might be necessary to carry on logging operations on I their reservation for the s e w n of 1895-96, under the provisions of the act of June 12,1890 (26 Stat. L., 146). They were to cut and bank on I the rivers and tributaries of the reservation 17,000,000 feet of pine timber, or so much thereof as might be practicable, under the rules aud regulations that governed similar operations the previous year, miid rules being as follows, via: 1. That each contractor, or boss of a squad, be paid a rate to be agreed upon for cutting and banking timber in proportion to and in harmony with all the con-ditions uudsr which the timber he is to cut and bank is aitnsted, the looation of eaoh contractor's timber, price to ha allowed him per 1,000 feet, and number of feet he will be allowed to bank, to be determined upon and named in each contract before signing; said contrasts to be executed in duplicate, on" copy to be handed to the logger, and all necessary inatructions given to him, before he commenaes operation& to abide by which he must signify his full consent. 3. That a definite time be agreed upon and named in eaoh contrsct for oommeuc-ing work by each contrsotar, and a dste fixed by the agent and superintendent, of which due notice will be given to the Indians, after which no more applioatitions for the privilege of logging will be received, or oontracts made. 4. That any contraotor banking more logs than his contraot calls for shall forfeit the surplus. 5. That a sufficient number of scalers and assistant soalers he employed to keep the loge scaled up every week, and to be sworn to perform their duties faithfully ; the scalers to be paid $2.50 per day and the assistant so&lers $2 per day each, without hoard. G. That the scalers make report to the agentevery two weeks, showing the exaot number of feet banked by eaoh ooutractor doring that time. 7. That contractors shall pay a fair, reason*hle, snd nsusl rate of Wage8 to their aes i s tmt~a,n d shall, nnder the supervision of the superintendent, furnish the agent with a monthly statement showing the amount due to eaoh laborer st the end of every month. 9. That no outside Indian be allowedto assist in banking Menomonee logs without the conacnt of the agent and snperintendent, Menomonee Indians to have the pref-erence in all cases. 10. That no squaw man, or white man of sup class, be allowed to take part in the logging, in any capacity whatever, except when authorized by the agent end approved by the Department. 11. That no oontraotor shall be interested in more than one contract st the same time. |
