Kansas and Arkawas Valley ~ailwa~.- en ti on is made in the last annual report of the fact that by act of Congress of June 6,1894 (28 Stat. L., 86), the above-named company was ]granted an extension of three years from February 24,1894, within which to build the first 100 miles of its additional lines of road, as provided for in the act of Con- . gress of February 24,1891 (26 Stat. L., 783). No maps of definite loca-tion of said additional lines have yet been filed for approval. July l, 1896, the company tendered a draft for $2,444.55 in payment of the annual tax through the Indian Territory for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1896. Chicago, Rock Island and Paci$c Railway.-Reference to the last annual report will show that the above company, by act of Congress approved February 27,1893 (27 Stat. L., 492), was granted a right of way through the Indian Territory, as an extension of its linc of road from Chickasha station, on its present line, running thence in a south-easterly direction to the south line of the Indian Territory ; also from said Chickasha station, running thence in a ~outhwesterlyd irection, to the west or south line of the Territory of Oklahoma. No maps of definite location of these extensions, however, have yet been filed for approval. July 20,1896, the company tendered a draft for $1,593 in payment of the annual tax of $15 per mile on that portion of the road passing through Indian lands for the fiscal year ending June 30,1896. &Ef, Colorado and Santa Fd Railway.-On August 20, 1896, the company, through its attorneys in this city, tendered a draft for $1,500 in payment of the annual tax of $15 per mile on that portion of the road extendingthrough Indian lands, for the fisctal year ending June 30,1896. 8outhern Kansan Railroad (leased to the Atchison, Topeka and ghnta Fd Railroad).-August 9,1896, the latter company tendered a draft for $85.50 in paymentof the annual tax of $15 per mile for that portion of the road passing through Indian lands, for the fiscal year ending June 30,1896. Denison and Washita Valley Railroad.-July 18, 1896, this office called upon the above-named company, throngh its attorneys in this city, for payment of annual tax at the rate of $15 per mile for each mile of road passing through Indian lands, for the fiscal year ending June 30,1896. Up to date the payment has not been made. Pond dn Lac Reservation, H'i., Northern Pacific Railway.-The last annual report refers to the fact that the Indians of the Fond du Lac Reservation, Minn., have never been paid by this company for the right of way through their reservation lands. Abrief account of the steps preliminary to bringing suit against the company was also given. Sep-tember 22,1894, the facts in the case were laid before the Secretary of the Interior, with the recommendation that the Attorney-General be |
