Utah 84101 -1182 (801) 533-3500 FAX: (801) 533-3503 March 24, 1994 Mr. Bob Nicholson City of St. George 175 E. 200 North St. George, UT 84770 Dear Bob: This letter is in response to your request for comments from the State Historic Preservation Office regarding the proposed rehabilitation of the St. George Opera House (Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts). As you are aware, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on Apr i 1 3, 1991. We are pleased the city has taken the initiative to not only preserve the building but to return it to a public use very similar to its original. While we have not seen detailed plans for the project, we have visited the site with city representatives and the project architect and feel that the proposed work meets all of the appropriate standards for historic building rehabilitation. Once your project receives funding we will have to provide a more detailed review of the work plan (in compliance with state law UCA 9-8404), but we foresee no potential problems. Again, we are very pleased to see the City of St. George taking such an active role in preserving this significant building. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
