The male from Neche agrees with Cassin's plate (Journ. Phil. Ac. v., pi. 52. figs. 1, 2), and shows the red throat. Mr. Salmon's skins are of the large western form described by Mr. Gould on specimens from Ecuador. " The nest of this bird is rather curious ; it is made by the bird burrowing in a sandbank for about three feet, and then forming a chamber about eighteen inches in diameter, where the eggs are deposited on the sand."-T.
