Lot had gone crazy . Tuesd Apr 8th 84. John Lot & We were plowing, harrowing, laying off I arose early finished sowing of 20 acres wheat & oats . Bro Oris brot the Donkey . son Peter arrived this evening . Wed Apr 9th 84. c. & & commenced sowing wheat - I then sadled & & at 5 P. M. started at 6 P . M. for Escalanta and arrived at Riddles Ranche at 2 A. M. where I layed down till morning On awakening found I was covered with snow. I started on after breakfasting with the Thursd morning Apr 10th . boys & at night camped after traveling 7½ miles through much hardship crossing eac swale three times, first with my horse then the mare then the Donkey & so on . I arose early & tried to go up the road but had to lea. e Frid Apr 11th. the donkey 150 yds from the foot hills the snow being too deep . I proceeded a. short distance when I found it impossible to go up the road or the swa.le in which the road was . My horse would go down & I would have to unpack & get them out & th n pack or drag the things to the horses & put them on again & c . So I made for the south side of the mountain tops which looked bare thinking to follow them to the summit but just evening I came to snow rather deep & as there was nothing for them to eat but a little grain I thought to mush the horse around the next point to grass but night came on & I had to leave him without feed the mare grain & turned her loose . ing log but as the wind & & returned to my outfit. Sat Apr 12th 84 . I arose early & made my way to the horse & looked away to get him out fed him grain & while tramping a trail for him he started away & made down the mountain . I could not get him to stop . In a few leaps he struck deep snow & floundered flinging himself on to his side slid away then rolled then ended over a few times landing at the bottom in very deep snow.
