Show 259 uneasiness about Roger was gone. "I don't think so." Jeanne frowned. "But I don't want you saying anything about that. To anyone. Not your friends at school. Or Katie. Or anyone. Okay?" "Okay," Jeanne said, still frowning. Again, she fingered her locket. "It will just be our secret. Understand?" "Okay. But why not? why aren't you getting married to Roger? You said that you loved him." "Well, Sharon said, choosing her words carefully, "you don't necessarily marry someone because you love them." "You don't?" "No. You might love lots of people. "What if the person you're supposed to marry is killed-in a car wreck, suppose-and then you'd never know." "Well," Sharon said, again carefully choosing her words, "I don't think there's any one person that you have to marry. Probably. There's more than one you could be happy with." "But that isn't true love!" Jeanne protested. Sharon smiled. "It sounds like you and your school friends have been talking this out." "Don't you believe in true love?" Jeanne asked. |
