Show 258 Jeanne thought for a moment. "A year's a long time." "Yes, it is." "What do you think will happen?" Sharon thought about this summer, when she would move out. And then she put that quickly out of her mind. "Well, many things could happen. I will graduate from high school, for one thing. So will Roger." Jeanne looked shyly at her. "Do you love Roger?" "Yes. In a way." "What way?" Sharon laughed. "Well, like a friend. A special friend." Jeanne looked out the window, toward the sun. "Do you think- when I'm in high school-that some boy-like Roger-will ask me out on dates?" Sharon put her hand on Jeanne's shoulder. "I'm sure someone- many boys-will ask you out." "But will it be someone as nice as Roger?" Sharon hesitated. "You think Roger's pretty nice, don't you?" "He always talks to me. When he phones for you. Or comes by the house to pick you up." "Yes, he is nice. But there will be someone just as nice-for you-when you're my age." Jeanne looked at her with that shy look again; but again, underneath was that open curiosity in her eyes.
