Show 67 sobbed constantly. He seemed so small, Sharon thought, in her arms. Smaller than he had ever seemed before. It was not until Katie fastened the bandage on his head, securing it with adhesive tape, that he began to quiet down. "It's all right now," Sharon said releasing him. And suddenly, now that she was no longer holding him, her own hands began to tremble. She concealed them behind her back, hiding them from him. "You can come with me now," Katie said, "down to my room for awhile." This seemed to satisfy him, he gave a deep sigh with a final shudder. "Would you like that?" Sharon said, knowing he would. He shook his head yes, chewing on his lower lip. gathering his composure, being brave now. Jeanne appeared with his stuffed teddy bear, and he took it under his arm. The white bandage looked very big, strange, on the back of his head as he walked down the hall following Katie. Sharon had to have a few minutes to herself, to sort things out. She went into her room and sat on the bed. Jesus Christ! Her hands were still trembling, shaking. She placed them between her knees, squeezing her knees together like a vice. The sleeves of her robe were soiled with blood stains. If she didn't wash them out soon, they would not come out. Right now, though, she had to just sit. Where had Oscar gone? What was he feeling now? Like a monster? He should! Anger swelled inside her. He deserved it! He should feel like thatl He should suffer! He should feel like a beast. She |
