Show "Not Ra'c". Thus, fourth class land is divided into thr«« subdivisions* (1) reclamation recommended; (2) reclamation not recommended; and (3) reclama- tion questionable. Sixth Class Land - Mot Sal tod for Irrigation* Sixth class land includes all areas in which development for irrigation and the growing of crops is practically impossible, or in which conditions ar« such that th« cost of correcting thai would b« out of proportion to benefits that would be derived. Topographic features and physical and chemical conditions are the determining factors. Topography needs no explanation. Physical conditions include sands that are too leachy and unproductive to use for irrigation. Unfavorable physical and chemical conditions are combined in some areas where the colloids of compact clay are highly impregnated with salts or sodium ions. Sodium in the colloidal complex produces a puddling of the soil which results in a tough, intractable, and relatively impervious physical condition. Total area of land classified in this survey is 115,906 acres, of which 68,422 acres are recommended for development. This includes all of Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3 lands and 10,140 acres of Class 4 land. Development is not recommended on 31,272 acres, which includes all of Class 6 land sad 5,226 acres of Class 4 land. The remainder, consisting of 16,214 acres, comprise* Class 4 land, the development of which is questionable. The following table shows, by townships, the area surveyed, acreage for which development is recommended, development not recommended, and development questionable and acreage of each classification of lands - 7 - |
