Show -19- 1952, to accommodate this increased demand for water, the M.W.D. initiated a program to expand the Colorado River Aqueduct Project to its ultimate capacity. As of March 31, 1957, the estimated cost of this expansion program (including the construction of a 3rd barrel for the San Diego Aqueduct) is $262,000,000 of which $197,-000,000 will be used for expansion of the distribution system. It is anticipated that approximately 75% of this expansion program, including the 3rd barrel of the San Diego Aqueduct, will be completed by 1960 and the balance by 1963. The principal features on the distribution system authorized for construction under the 1952 expansion program are: 1. On the Middle Feeder System: (a) The 5.8-mile Garvey-Ascot Cross Feeder, commencing south of the Ascot Reservoir on the Palos Verdes Feeder and extending easterly to Garvey Reservoir. (b) The 1500 acre-foot Garvey Reservoir in Monterey Park, California. (See photograph, Plate 21.) (c) The 15.8-mile Middle Feeder, extending southerly from Garvey Reservoir to Victoria Street on the Middle Feeder. (d) The 4-mile Victoria Street-223rd Street Cross Feeder, extending from the end of the existing Victoria Street Lateral to the southerly end of the Middle Feeder, and thence southwesterly along Alameda Street to 223rd Street where a connection will be made to the Long Beach Lateral.
