Show ALBERTO GUZMAN February 10, 2006 I even seen the torpedo traveling! That thing traveled slow. But boy I tell you what: th y r so big! And when they hit that ship right in the center right in the air it went! It blew up, you know. But that's the only one. Then, after that, them bombs, you know, that we had, we used to drop them in the water and set them to time, you know. We used to drop them in the water and they'd float, you know, looking for a submarine. And every time they contact a submarine they'd go that way. I don't know how in the hell they made them go up, but they go up and bomb the submarine. Germans had a lot ofU-Boats out there, you know, but we got rid of the ones we had. But they didn't expect the United States to do that. JAS: Yeah. ALB: Go up and land in a peaceful country, you know, like Morocco. JAS: Now, when you were in Virginia, you knew you were going to go overseas. ALB: Yeah, I had an idea. JAS: Were you scared at all? Were you excited about it? ALB: Not really. But a lot of guys were silly, you know: "I think we've got it now! I think we had it!" A lot of them say, "Well, somebody's got to do it." And we'd heard about Hitler for a long time, what kind of a guy he was, you know. And we got all that in our training, you know, what kind of a man he was. He has no feelings for life, for nobody. And I was, in a way, scared, you know, to go in to real war. But, I say, somebody had to do it. So, I just decided whatever happened, you know. When we got on the boats in 41 |
