Show ALBERTO GUZMAN F bruary I 0, 2006 JAS: Now, at this point, the United States was not in the war yet right? ALB: Now but we started the war. You remember Pearl Harbor? They bombed u - was it '41? JAS: Yes. ALB: Okay. In December '41. So, then we was in war with Japan. But what Japan had, he was going to cut us down so we wouldn't go into Europe. JAS: Right. ALB: But they were wrong! All of a sudden, that's why we got all this -like me, you know- special troop training. And they had this plan from North Africa, you know, all these countries like French Morocco, Algiers, I mean Tunisia then we had Algiers, and then Italy. They had that plan already. Take all them little countries, you know, and move a lot of equipment- a lot of our planes, bombs and everything - and then from there we'd go into Germany. And we ended up invading in France because Germany had France. JAS: I want to know more about your experiences in Europe, but first let's talk- you said you got special training? ALB: Yeah. JAS: Can you tell me about that? ALB: Well, what we did is hell. I mean, a lot of guys didn't make it. They were sent back and put in a different outfit, you know. But just the special guys they picked out, they could take it - they could graduate you for that. 23 |
