I am more than ashamed in Tom the way he has been carrying on. I never for a moment dreamed that he was a boy of that kind. I know that his brother in Leadville had his hands full with him trying to have him get his lessons and keep him off the street. When he told you that I know of his going with women in Leadville he told a lie what girls he kept company with. I always considered them above such degrading actions. In this letter to George B. Sweazey, James Riach writes of Tom who is a student at the Salt Lake Collegiate Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah. He writes of how he is ashamed of Tom for his behavior. Mr. Riach tells of how Tom's brother in Leadville, Colorado, had a hard time with keeping him out of trouble, and how Tom had lied to Mr. Riach about the sort of women he kept in company with.
