Show 806 of the party walked where they would. They ferried them across from on bank to the other, until they came to Narrow canyon, where they all had to go part way through, " all eight men in the boat.' R. 1910. It was at this point that they found marked in the wall: " D. Julian, 3 May 1836." He saw this " D. Jullian" writing at three different points; two places on the Green River, and once on the Colorado. He didn't know just where it was located on the Green River, but it was below Bowknot On the Green River It was on the bottom land, but on the Colorado River it was in such a place that could only have been put there by somebody on a raft, or in a boat. The inscription had been made with some kind of a sharp instru-ment. [ Exhibit No. 23.] R. 1911. At the " D. Julian" inscription the water ran right under the edge of the cliff, and could only have been reached by a man on a boat or a raft. They then continued on down to Rite, Utah; some of the party walking, and the rest riding. After they got to Rite, they picked up a flat bottomed boat and repaired it. The eight men then continued with the flat bottomed boat and the good boat, to Lee's Ferry; where they abandoned the river. They were re- supplied at Rite, with supplies brought in by the Wheeler brothers, who were there when the expedition arrived. R. 1912. The Wheeler brothers also brought a little mail.
