We are just below Paria rapids now; we are in what would be called comparatively easy water, below the Paria rapids; we wanted to see if the boat would go up Paria rapids; we felt confident it would go up the stream; it wouldn't go up Paria rapids under its own power; we had to get out and help tow the boat through the greater part of the rapids, perhaps half way up the rapids. " Then there wasn't water enough; it had shifted over towards the east bank of the river, and the man in the tow line pulling had to turn loose -- Mr. Cobb was the boat man in charge of the boat -- he got out, and with the assistance of Mr. Cobb lifting it over rocks and things of that kind, and its own power, we finally got it up over the rapids. |
