They were abandoned; they were not productive enough to justify working them." R. 1790. He met Bert Loper about the middle of Glen Canyon. he was on the east side of the river, pulling his boat up the river with a line. R. 1790. He saw the dredge that Stanton had brought in. He believes it was located above Halls Crossing, but it was wrecked and in the river. It showed no evidence of having been operated recently. It would have been impossible to operate it, because it was sunk and covered with water and mud. He reached Lees Ferry October 27 [ 1909], and it had taken sixteen days to come down to that point from Lees Ferry. They had hoped to find supplies at Less Ferry; but were disappointed. R. 1791. They had arranged for supplies to be brought in to Lees Ferry with a man named Emmet, who took the money but forgot the supplies and moved away. They were, therefore, not re- supplies at the El Trovar Hotel. When they arrived at Lees Ferry there were three men there from Searchlight, Nevada, and a cowboy, who was riding in the territory; no one was living in the ranch house. In his opinion he could not have taken his boat from Lees Ferry up to Hite alone. R. 1792. He saw Bert Loper going up stream on the east side of |
