Show NOTICE OF WATER APPROPRIATION. Notice is hereby given that the United States of America hereby locates, claims and apropriates perpetually the water of the Gila River and its tributaries, torrential or otherwise, flowing in the channel of the Gila River to the extent of l^OjOOO (one hundred and fifty thousand) acre feet for the purpose of irrigation and domestic use on lands reserved for Indians in Pinal and Maricopa counties, State of Arizona, said 1^0,000 acre feet to include that part of the normal or low water mark flow of the Gila River, which the said Indian^ lands are entitled to receive for their irrigation by right of prior appropriation and use. The United States intends to construct and maintain a dam across the Gila River for the diversion of said quantity of water at or in the vicinity of a point within the Gila River Reservation, in Township 1; South, Range 7 East, of the Gila and Salt River Meridian, known as the Santan Canal heading, or at such other suitable point along the course of the Gila River east of the said Santan Canal heading as may be selected by engineers of the Government. The United States intends to construct and maintain a canal on the north side of the Gila River, and a similar canal onthe south side of the Gila River each commencing at a point in the vicinity of the said diversion dam to be constructed across said river, a s hereinbefore described, and continuing each to its respective terminus at the extreme west end of the Gila River Reservation in Township 1 South, Range 1 East, of the Gila and Salt River Meridian, for conveying water to said Indians lands. The right to change the point of diversion ofs aid water is expressly reserved. This notice shall not be deemed in any particular a waiver of any property interests or right now or heretofore reserved, held, or claimed by the United States for Indians under any acts of Congress or the Executive Department of the Government or under filings, notices, locations, appropriations or claims heretofore made, posted, recorded or acquired by purchase or conveyance by or to the United States or its Indian wards. |
