Show Chapter Twenty One Lamm stood by the landing platform and watched until the basket carrying Sandy disappeared into the mist. Then, with a heavy heart, he turned and went home. A light shone in his cottage when he arrived. Svasar was waiting for him. "Is she gone, Lamm? Did she get off safely?" the woman cried as he approached the door. "Yes, yes. She's on her way. Svasar - I shouldn't have let her go! She's so young and helpless. If Daemon catches her, he'll kill her!" Lamm clenched his fist and raised it in the air. "If he harms that child, I'll -" "There is nothing you can do, Lamm. The girl is in God's hands now. Ah - " She put her hand on Lamm's fist, bringing it back to his side. "-Come in, Lamm. Come in and rest. All we can do now is wa.it." "No, that's not all we can do. I'm going to go up there and find her!" "Lamm, you can't! It is too dangerous! You're an old man. If they catch you, all will be lost. Any chance of our getting Verus back will be destroyed!" A determined look came on Lamm's face. "Svasar, I am going. I cannot let Sandy face the dangers alone. I shall go up in the first basket at dawn. I just pray I won't be too late!" Having made a decision, Lamm dismissed Svasar with a wave of his hand and started into his house. "Wait, Lamm! I'll send my husband up. He is much younger and stronger than you!" |
