In other words, - DO IT YOURSELF!" Impatiently, the woman turned her back to Sandy. Sandy struggled and finally got the dress buttoned, then put on some green patent shoes and a belt of pearls. She selected a pretty green satin bow, pinned it in her hair, and looked in the full length mirror. "Ah, don't I look pretty!" she said admiringly. She took Verus from her discarded jeans' pocket and repeated, "Don't I look pretty, Verus?" The low voice answered her. "I like you better in your jeans, Sandy, You're not so vain." At this, Sandy threw the spoon down on the carpeted floor and kicked it. "You're horrible!" she screamed. "You don't know beauty when you see it! I don't want you anymore!" Sandy glared at her reflection in the mirror. A strange girl stared back at her. The figure in the mirror had on the same clothes she did, but the face was altered. It looked mean, and proud. She looked just like the townspeople. Suddenly Sandy felt very old. Her face was aging! |
