"Well, he just ran past me a few minutes ago, and he was laughing and jumping about like a madman. 'Ho ho - look at me I'm rich,1 he said. 'He gave me all his money - ha ha! He thinks I'll be back with materials - hee hee! I'll NEVER be back!* - and he ran away." "Yes, I knew he would," sighed the little man, still not moving. "I knew I couldn't trust him. You just can't trust anybody." The child ran off, and Sandy stared after him. This is crazy, she thought. I'm leaving. "Goodbye," she said to the dejected figure. "I knew it, I just knew it," he mumbled, taking no notice of her. Sandy shrugged her shoulders and walked off in the direction where the little boy disappeared. |
