Show -8'9- A guard darted into the fog and went past her down the path. After a minute, he went back out, "I don't see her down here. Anyway, she'd get lost without a light!" she heard him shout. "You'd better stay on guard tonight, just the same," came the reply. Sandy's heart sank. She had to get out before Pupa returned, but she realized she was trapped. To go back down the mountain was unthinkable, and she couldn't go up. "I'll stay here and hide. Maybe Pupa won't see me, and then I can escape." With this hope, she crouched low and waited out the long night. She was just dozing, when she heard a chuckle. "What do we have here?" grinned Pupa. "A little girl? - and what do you have in your pocket?" She looked down. The spoon had partially pooped out of her pocket while she dozed and it's light had given her away. Didn't anyone ever tell you it's not nice to steal?" leered the sDldier. He grabbed her arm roughly. Sandy struggled, but was no match for his strength. "I didn't steal her! I'm taking her home!" "She JLS home, you little wretch!" snarled Pupa. Sandy heard a scream from the castle as they emerged from the fog. The dawn was just breaking. "Well, Rogare's done it!" Pupa muttered. "Hail the new-king - such as he is." |
