The wiry laborer grinned widely at the old man. "Oh, hello, Lamm! Sure, I'd be happy to" As Frater lifted the sack, Lamm cautioned him. "Be gentle, now, potatoes bruise easily!" "Okay, I'll be gentle." He carefully put the sack into the basket. "Hey! What are you putting into the basket there!" A rough looking soldier walked onto the platform. "Has it been checked?" Frater laughed. "It's only a sack of potatoes. This old man was late in getting it here." The soldier raised his spear to poke the sack, but thought better of it. "All right. Send it up!" Frater gave the rope a tug and the basket began to rise in the air. "Goodbye, my child," whispered Lamm. "God be with you."HI |
