Show -9- breath. They descended into some very thick, moist clouds and little beads of water began to form on the bubble's outer surface. Soon the moisture got so dense that Sandy couldn't see outside. ""Too bad this bubble doesn't have windshield wipers," she muttered, Verus laughed. "You couldn't see anything anyway. It's too dark outside." Sandy agreed. It was very dark outside the bubble. "Verus," she whispered. "I'm afraid of the dark!" "Well, it's not dark in here!" Astonished, Sandy realized that there was a soft radiance inside the bubble and discovered a light flowing from the spoon. "Why Verus!" laughed Sandy. "You really are a marvel!" The clouds were now thinning out and, with a little bounce, the bubble broke away from them completely, shaking loose all the dewdrops. Below her, Sandy saw hundreds of beautiful, glowing mountain peaks and narrow valleys. As the bubble descended, she could see tiny, stunted trees and sparkling waterfalls. "Where are we?" asked Sandy. "Is this Sol Vallis?" "No, it isn't," answered Verus, sadly. "I'm afraid that wind knocked us off course. These are the Inner Mountains. You remember I said they were covered by fog." Sandy stared at the landscape below. The bubble had stopped descending and was now floating about fifty feet above the small inner mountain peaks. |
