Show Dr. Hachman has pointed out that the estimated State population by 1972 was such as to yield the 1980 OBERS figure of 1,231,000 unbelievable,&) Indeed by July 1974, at a population level of 1,174,000 the State had in forty percent of the projection time interval realized 65 percent of the OBERS projected growth for the entire decade. Thus, the State's rate of population growth, 1970 to 1974, was over 60 percent greater than the OBERS projected rate. This point may also be seen roughly by comparing the estimated annual growth of State population, 1970- 1974, of 2.44 percent with the OBERS rate, 1968- 1980 of 1.48. The rate realized is of the order of over 60 percent greater than the OBERS figure. In Table 13 may be seen some annual rates of population and employment growth for Utah and a broad geographic area called MThe Salt Lake Region, No. 151." In this table several inconsistencies appear; when comparing population rates with employment rates; or when comparing rates over times for the individual row categories. Thus, it seems fairly clear that the OBERS projections are not applicable in regard to Utah or its component areas. Data Relative to Distribution of Population and Employment in Salt Lake County This section presents information on numbers of employed residents in Salt Lake County, and other data relative to all jobs located in the County. Information is assembled from the population census, the journey- to- work surveys, the Bureau of Employment Security, as well as from the UPED projections. Consideration is given to projections of household size and of numbers of dwelling units. 23 |
