Show Assumption- Sandy City-- Sandy City expects to encompass the area shown on Figure 10. Since no significant agricultural opportunity exists within this area, no constraint in terms of open space/ agriculture preservation will inhibit the full potential of the area to grow. Assumption- West Jordan-- West Jordan is another rapidly expanding community that has projected boundaries. The opportunity for agriculture maintenance within the predicted area is very high, and therefore the rural density should produce a population of about half that of Sandy City. As in the case of South Jordan, this population allocation could increase significantly if agricultural values are abandoned and the City of West Jordan assumes a totally urban growth policy. The holding capacity figures in Group IV give some idea as to the potential increase. In conclusion, the West Jordan figure should be taken to be a reasonable base projection, only to be pushed upward through changes in agricultural values and growth policy. Assumption- Riverton-- Although the City of Riverton indicated no no expansion policy in preliminary meetings, the City Council is contemplating a change in attitude due to increasing building permit activity and the undertaking of a comprehensive master plan revision. Therefore, the same provisions regarding the allocation for West Jordan and South Jordan will apply to Riverton. The population figures should be regarded as a base projection that could be shifted upward through changes in policy. 59 |
