Show Number of Jobs in Salt Lake County The data of the lower part of Table 16 indicate employment levels in Salt Lake County in 1970. Following is a summary of the table. Total Payroll Employment 183,660 Agricultural Employment 2,230 Total Jobs 185,890 In addition to the 185,890 jobs in the County were the number of the self- employed, most or all of whom ( presumably) had their centers of activity in Salt Lake County. Thus, the number of jobs plus the number of self- employed ( 15,320) totaled 201,210 in 1970 according to this tabulation. The number of jobs in the County as given above was considerably greater than the number of work- trip destinations reported in the journey- to- work census of 1970. In April 1970 there were 167,691 work trips made to or within the County. In the SMSA, there were also 8,779 unreported destinations. Since 83.4 percent of the reported destinations were in Salt Lake County, we may assume that 7,322 of the unreported destinations were also in the County, to yield an estimate of about 174,800 workers working in the County. This figure is about 11,000 less than the located jobs figure of the DES. It might be noted that the SLATS figure for jobs in the County in 1970 closely agrees with ( being derived from) the DES data. The SLATS figure for that year was 186,592. Interestingly enough, when we interpolate to obtain for April 1970 the amount of employment in Salt Lake County ( between December 1969 and May 1971) in Table 16 of the DES report on located employment,^ we obtain a figure of 201,335. This agrees well with the figure above of 201,210 which included the self- employed total. The same DES table indicates a figure for located employment of 244,196 in Salt Lake County in May 1974 and Table 14 of that report distributes 28 |
