Show SECTION I INTRODUCTION The Salt Lake County 208 Water Quality Project, sponsored by the County Council of Governments and funded by the united States Environmental Protection Agency, has provided a valuable opportunity to update the population and housing projections for the County as a whole. The projections developed here are the result of over twelve months of work by several professional agencies and consultants, and should be considered to be the most current and complete assessment of future growth levels in Salt Lake County. The projections were originally developed to provide base data for the Water Quality Study, which included among other things; • Projected sewage effluent flows • Projected storm and agricultural runoff • Projected land use that may affect water quality-- commercial, industrial, residential, and recreational development. These figures will also be used as the base data for the Comprehensive Master Plan update now under way by the Salt Lake County Planning Commission. The projections were developed through the use of the Alternative Futures Model produced by the Office of the State Planning Coordinator, but were updated with additional information from the Bureau of Economic and Business Research at the university of Utah. Employment data were also reviewed by the State Office of Employment Security and the Utah Chamber of Commerce. Initial data gathering was carried out by the 208 staff and Land Use Consultants ( Williams § Mocine, San Francisco, California) with the majority of the text produced by Dr. Howard Lapin, AIP, Ms. Margaret Rusche, AIP, and refinement, compilation, graphics, and editing by the 208 Project Staff. The report as a whole is a composite of the background data by Lapin, and the Population Futures interim reports produced earlier by the 208 Staff. 1 |
