They went through the same procedure with sky, sand, water, and many other words. They were both thrilled and excited with the discovery of communication, and they smiled their feelings at each other. Suddenly roa realized that Ra_, the sun had risen high into the sky. Time had fled and he would be late to his battle drills. Turi, his father would be angry. "E_ noho ra, e_ hoa," he said In farewell as he turned and disappeared into the thick fern bush. Roa awakened with a ierk, thinking for a moment that he had really met his Pakeha friend again. Then wondering briefly if this friendship was really nothing but a dream, he shook himself free of sand and sleep and hurried toward his pa. "I will be late again!" he muttered as he ran. |
