Show 2L Tangi Funeral While Roa started preparations for the tangi or burial for his uncle, he thought upon the good times they had experienced together. "I shall miss you, dear uncle," Roa thought. "I often felt closer to you than to my own father. It will be a lonelier life without you." His father, Turi, the rangatira, chief of his tribe, maintained the strict tradition handed down from generation to generation of his people. This created a barrier between father and son in many ways, especially since Roa saw things from such a different perspective. With his uncle, Roa could be himself and laugh and play the games of other boys his age. Roa's mind wandered back to the day he and his uncle won the kite-flying contest. Only the men and boys |
